This section discusses problems that HTML Guard users often encounter.
Will the full version continue adding the notice "This page has been protected with …" to my pages?
Only HTML Guard's demo version adds the above text to your pages. The full version does not alter your page layout and leaves no other visible tracks.
Why can't right-clicking be blocked in Firefox and Opera?
Right-click protection is only available if a particular browser allows it. It is fairly well known that the Opera browser does not allow the context menu to be hidden. Firefox lets each user determine, using its "Settings" menu, whether to allow JavaScript to disable the context menu.
What effect does encryption have on my pages' search engine ranking?
The encryption of your source code by HTML Guard not only makes it unreadable for human eyes, but also keeps search engines from indexing its content.
In contrast to today's browsers, search engine spiders do not (yet) support JavaScript and can therefore not execute the decryption function contained in each page. Encrypted areas, including the links that they contain, therefore remain hidden from search engines.
You should also be advised that HTML Guard's encryption function may have a negative effect on a page's search engine compatibility. The remaining functions provided by our software only add new code or remove unnecessary characters from a page without having a fundamental effect on the structure of the source code.
Do I need to change anything on my web server in order to use HTML Guard?
Most of the protective functions provided by the software are based on JavaScript code, which is executed on the viewer's browser. You therefore need only to make changes to the code on your pages. The protected HTML files can be served by any web server without the need of any additional installations or configuration.
How easy is it to "crack" HTML Guard's protection?
HTML Guard cannot provide 100% secure copy protection, since that degree of protection for a web page is unattainable. As long as a standard web browser can display the contents of your pages, there is a chance that their contents can be copied and saved. However, HTML Guard can make copying much more difficult, and may therefore deter it.
Does HTML Guard work for Mac OS and Linux, too?
HTML Guard software runs only on Windows. Versions for Mac OS and Linux are currently not planned. However, pages protected by HTML Guard can still be displayed by browsers of various operating systems.
How can I order the full version of HTML Guard?
You can easily order the full version online. A link to the order page is available here. As soon as we receive your payment, your license key to unlock the full version will be sent to you by email.
May I use HTML Guard commercially to protect multiple sites?
You can protect as many pages as you like with HTML Guard's full version - even for your customers' websites.
